well my recycled mid 70's caddy tilt steering column is broke and Im done messin with it.
Any one have a suggestion on what length, model etc....of I DID IT column's fit nicely in a 52 ?...would like to keep the steering wheel as far forward as possible.
any input would be great!

The Ididit column I put in the '37 to replace the old POS GM column that was in there was a '57 Chevy column, Tim... my cab is REAL small and I wasn't sure it would work, but it works very well...

As always you can keep the column pretty much as far away from you as you like as you'll want to install a Borgeson joint on the shaft coming out of your steering box and attach the coumn there, so you can cut that shaft short or long depending on your needs... just measure carefully before cutting and it should work fine...

You might go to a rod shop that sells Ididit first and get measurements of various lengths of columns... if you stay close to what you're running right now it should be pretty easy to do!

do you order the dash support/mount and the firewall mount to hold the column seperate or is it a kit ???... i was lookin at a dealer an it didnt mention mounting ??

If you mean the column drop that holds the column under the dash that is not part of the kit at least in my experience... column drops and floor/firewall mounts can be purchased seperately and while they are made by Ididit you needn't buy one of their as many brands will fit...

You only need to know the diameter of your column to find one to fit as well as how big a drop you want under the dash...

I personally went with a generic (non-Ididit) chrome 3" column drop but did buy the Ididit floor mount which is pretty reasonable if you just buy the plain metal one... they have a chrome version but as you can expect that costs a lot more and I just didn't see the need for it in my case...

There are several good columns on the market. I measured mine up by using the measurements from the original column. Next step was going to my local hotrod shop and looking around. I settled on a Billet Specialties column,and shaft plus Borgenson joints.When I installed mine the frontend was off of the truck which meant everything was super easy to get at.So find a column that you like,and you will find you can vary things a bit by the lenght of the Borgension shaft. I went with the Billet Specialties column,because it was just as nice as the I Did It one and was quite a bit cheaper.

in a '55 the suggested length is 32" not sure about the 52

tim,the floor/firewall mount i used was from ididit. think it was for a 55 chevy car was only $20.00 worked well in the 49.bought it from a vendor who kept tellin me it wouldnt work. only you know the situation your workin on and what you need.just look at what they have its pretty simple.and as far as a coloum drop i used the stock one without the rubber works great for me............dave
