1953 Chevrolet Truck - 3100
what motor does it have?
Numbers found on the block, on the passenger side:
Here goes:
above the starter:
CONV 1 12556
( there was something odd that was above & between the 1 and the 12556, it looks like a cockeyed number 4, but I am not sure)
the other numbers to the left:
383 7004
GM 4
someone suggested I drop the 3837004 number into google.com and check out the results... so I did... apparently that is the casting number for Chevy inline six bangers for 1955-1957. So, now I'm trying to find information, or books to buy to get it running, or to rebuild it.
The engine is not all together, the wiring harness is not hooked up to much of anything, so I think I will be spending alot of time in here.
If anyone has any places online or books to suggest, please send it my way.
Thank you folks, | | |

Reprints of original shop manuals are available from any repro parts suppliers and on ebay. A Motors or Chilton manual that covers your vintage would also work for most things also. Hemmings Motor News is a good starting point for parts info. If the engine is a 55-57, then a '53 manual would not be useful for the engine as they are very different. I would advise getting a factory '53 version for the truck and a '57 or equivalent for the engine. '56 was a suppliment year, so go for the '57. | | |

This one? We have a copy. Thanks for the info though. If you mean a different one, let me know.

So, a 1957 manual should cover the engine situation? What about for rebuilding? Is that sufficient?
Thank You. | | |
