It seems the hood lock bolt is too short to fully engage and catch on the lock plate. The safety catch is aligned and engages as it should. The front of the hood is touching the top of the grill so it doesn't seem to be the issue. I have had all the front sheet metal off the truck but everything looks to be aligned as far as fenders grill etc. goes. The hood latch bolt has 1/4 inch of thread showing at top of bolt that could be adjusted to lengthen the bolt but wanted to ask for any suggestions to see if I am missing something. Any other thoughts?

I'd try putting some washers under the plate until it latched. If it took more than two I'd start investigating why things aren't the way they should be. The pin has about a 1/4” of thread showing beyond the nut. Are your sure the hood wasn’t slammed shut hard and the cross member in the nose of the hood bent or pushed up into it?? Caroline i like the lock idea for the hood. I put a nova clip on the frame and I had someone suggest the sheet metal may be a fraction too low which makes sense. I'll play with it until I get it figured out cuz I am too stubborn to give up:)
Can someone please measure the length of the brace rods from back bolt to the L bracket on fenders? The shop manual shows different lengths which confuses me.
