Hi all,
I followed the Tech instructions regarding the 12 volt conversion. But, I used an alternator from a 96 lumina van out of the local junkyard. I connected the red wire from the alt. to the old batt. wire from the old regulator. Now, there are two wires left on the alt. One is pink. I wired it to the + side of the coil. The remaining wire on the alt. is brown. I just rolled it up, not used. Truck starts great, have head lights, tail lights, horn (real loud now, interior lights,etc. But, when i try the turn signals or the flasher, the tail lights go out. front signals have only one on constant and the volt gauge just stays stuck in the middle. No signals working at all. Now, what did I do wrong? And, what about that lef over brown wire on the alt.??? I tried a volt meter on the battery while truck is running and it seem to be charging. Can you help???

Wayne - the alt shouldn't affect the signals, you've got some other wiring messed up, or there's bad grounds somewhere - you need to check/track all the signal/tail light wires and make sure they're correct - can't say exactly how it should be, but sounds like you've got the alt hooked up right - someone here will link a wiring diagram for the conversion

I don't think this relates to the alt. wiring either. Double check the grounds on all your lights.

Are you using a 12 volt flasher? A steady burning in front usually means no continuity in back. Either burned out bulbs or lost ground in back. Are your flashers separate from the stop lights? Did your flashers work before the conversion?

Hi, yes, I replaced everything with 12 volt items. No, I havent checked for burned out bulbs yet. No, the flasher is part of the tail light. One bulb alone for signaling and stopping. They were newly installed with all the other bulbs. I have another question. Is the old "signal-stat 900" blinker switch that came with the truck, 6 volt??? That may be the problem? What do you think? Classicparts has one that is 6-12 volt able.

The turn signal switch will not matter. The only thing with it would be the bulb. The switch just makes a connection and doesn't care if it is 6 or 12.

You need a 12V flasher too.
