I just put a later model 235 in "54 1/2 ton. According to the block #, it's a '58-'59 eng. The eng fit in the truck perfect. The only problem is the water pump shaft is longer and the radiator won't clear the pump shaft. The water pump is different on a '54 block, so I can't use that pump on the newer engine. Has anyone here run into that, and if so, what is a remedy? Thank you in advance.

One solution is to go to the links page to one of the vendors where you can get a short water pump made just for this setup.

Wingnut,

Check around for prices on the water pump. Most old-truck-parts vendors sell them and the prices vary. I do not have enough experience to recommend a specific vendor or manufacturer - maybe someone else does.

For example (approximate prices): Chevy Duty=$140; Jim Carter=$75

As for vendors, Carter has had a run of bad publicity lately, getting orders wrong, running late, and so on. Shop for good prices, but don't forget the customer service. I highly recommend Bowtie Bits for customer service, but I also know there are other good vendors out there.

That short shaft water pump is avaliable from Napa
but, only if you find the oldest guy with the greyist hair behind the counter [ he is the only one who knows the right book to look it up in ].
If ya run into a roadblock @ Napa you can always get ahold of Patrick, 520-836-1117 he has a shopping cart [ literally ] of those pumps ready to go.
