ive got a 53 1 ton with the good ol 4 on the floor. I love rowing my own gears, but i also like driving at over 90 Km/h, and not getting 3 mpg. Anyone know of an easy-ish swap to keep a manual trannie, but improve the ratios some? Im already running a 14 bolt out back with 3.73's (maybe 4.10s, never really checked) but i lost all the advantage by putting on modern radials and 16's that were shorter than the original bias plies. What, if any, is the best cheapo option? Or has anyone tried dumping a relatively modern 5 speed behind thier stovebolt? Or, for curiositys sake, has anone gone the full bore route and stuck a brand new T56(or similar) on their favorite 235? What was that like and what did it cost? Any replies are welcome! Thanks!

I have never done it but am going to on my 55 1/2 ton as soon as I get it. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Very nice for the freeway and I've still got the 4.57 rear. My swap cost was around $450. I detailed the swap with pics and text here: Kustoms-and-Sleds To view the FILES, you'll need to join the group. Of course you can always un-join afterwards if you wish. -David

If memory serves, the tag # is 1352-196. One website with a tag identifier said it was an '89 V8 W.C. This website, T5 identify had some other info on identifying which lead me to believe the guy was truthful about it being a '91. -David

I'm am going to put in a Clark 280VOHD 5-speed with 0.8 overdrive, and swap out the rear end with a 4.11. With nice, tall 18" tires I should get to 60 mph at only 2000 rpm.
