I saw the question about tires in a earlier post, i would like to upgrade my wheels from 17.5 to late model 16 inch, with modern radial tires. Do say 70-90's 8 lug chevy wheels fit a 59 3800 1 ton? Is the patern the same? If not what modern radial tire size crosses to a 17.5" wheel?? I don't want to spend big bucks to replace 50 year old bias tires with new old style bias tires.

the bolt pattern on 70-90s chevy 8 lug is same as a 59 8 lug the only thing you need to watch out for is the back spacing on the newer rims, i haven't really heard of it being on a problem on the 55 2nd - 59 but on the 55 1st and earlier you run into the problem of the new rims have to much back spacing and the hit the tie rod end, i'm sure someone else will come along with more info

Be sure to try your prospective new wheel on the REAR;on my '62 one ton I couldn't use 16 inchers on the back because they wouldn't fit over my brake drums-not even with spacers. I was SO bummed! fortunately,my 17.5's had lots of tread left-I wanted to replace 'em mainly because they were weather checked pretty bad on the sidewalls,but they held up fine,never failed me,in spite of plenty of good reasons to blow out.(250 miles of 70 mph fully loaded,hauling a load of old engine longblocks approx. 7 feet wide,8 feet long,and 2 engines high,21,131 lbs))
