Someone said that taking out one of the bolts for the cover should let the oil out, but nothing came out. Do I have to take the cover off to get the oil out? The rear axle in my truck is a Dana 44.

The drain accepted a 1/2" socket wrench extension. It got easily covered over with muck, though, so it was easy to miss. If you don't have one of those, you may have to take the cover all the way off if the seal is good.

It was covered by dirt and grease. I got it out, and the oil was as dark as night. It probably hasnt been changed since the reagan administration
