I'm getting ready to replace the oil pump in the 261 in my 62 c-30. Never done a Chevy oil pump before and don't have a manual of any type. Can I get to it without pulling the motor? :confused:

I just worked on mine. Pull the pan, loosen the set screw holding the shaft to the block, (you may have to rotate the flywheel to get access to the set screw.) Loosen the oil line, and it should drop right out. It's a dirty, messy job, but somebody's gotta do it! Don't forget to drain the oil first! :p

Was there any problem getting the oil pan off? Or is there plenty of room above the crossmember? I don't know how far down I have to drop the oil pan to slide it out.

There is plenty of room to drop the pan down and remove it. Go for it!! (don't forget to drain the oil!) :p Ask me how I know this.
