I have a '46 chevy that I "Jim Cartered" about 10 years ago. 350/350 with a Pacer front end and a 3/4 ton rear. The truck originally came with an oak box instead of a metal one. My problem is that it really sways going around corners. Has anyone out there had this problem? What sway bars are suggested to fix this?

the pacers came with sway bars, if its not on there that would be a good place to start. from what i've seen on others projects they will need about a 2"spacer to bring the bar parrallel to the ground to make them function properly.well thats on a ad not sure about a deco.............dave

I'm really looking for an answer to the rear swaying problem...though I don't know if the front should be done too. Any body else had this problem?

I have a pacer front end in my 46 that I installed with my father. I had rebuilt the whole front end when we put it in. Dumb question but did you put new shocks and springs on it. There are two styles of springs you can buy for the Pacer...one is is standard set and the other a heavy duty set.

As for the rear...what do you have for a setup? I used the stock springs and helper springs on my truck but made custom shock mounts for the rear that really helped the rear. Your rear springs may be really shot and could use new or at least a shock setup to help the sway.

It is kind of tough to see but basically we just boxed a small portion of the frame and made an upper mount and then used the spot on the stock leaf springs for the lower mount. Big difference.

the monroe air shocks on my 52's rear really help with the sway ...but my front seems to want to roll more than it should Im going to try a fab up a sway bar & maybe gas shocks, but if you look at the trucks they are narrow and tall like a Ol Jeep CJ so there will be a bit more roll in a turn, they werent meant to hang corners at 60 ...heck top end in the day was 45 maybe.
Im gettin used to mine now and look ahead to upcoming turns an just pull my foot of the fuel a bit.

I've got a '78 pacer front end with new coil springs, shocks and brakes. Still able to walk into a parts store and get them!! The rear has the original under springs and over helper springs. I've got a 10 bolt 3/4 ton rear end. I boxed the frame in the engine area as well as at the rear end. Rear shocks are heavy duty chevy style, fore and aft. I've been thinking of changing the rear end to a 1/2 ton to see if that will make any difference.
