For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 142 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2008 Posts: 142 | I have a 1946 Chevy ½ ton with a factory 216 motor and 3-speed trans. The 216 is frozen, locked up. I tried, unable to loosen. However, I have a 1941 Chevrolet 1-½ ton donor truck that is equipped with a 4-speed transmission. My intent is to swap the 1946 “216” motor with the 1941 motor that is a “235“. I also intend to keep the 3-speed transmission.
Can I use the heavy-duty flywheel with 9 holes with the heavy-duty clutch, pressure-plate etc, with the light duty 3-speed transmission? Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | I would think the tranny would handle it, they built them pretty stout back in the day, as long as the bolt holes all line up GO FOR IT...it will prob outlast you an me. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 | It should work fine. I ran a stock 3spd in my 46 behind a 57 235 for three years with no problems at all. I'd say go for it. George | | |
