Hi guys, I just picked up a nice solid 1ton and need a source for Front brake shoes. I work at an auto parts store and all we have listings for in Raybestos is the hoses, master cyl, and wheel cyl. LMC and Classic parts don't list any shoes for '49s unless I missed a page. please help

Now that's nice. Here's a link to my '50 GMC 1 ton, 9 ft. box, http://rides.webshots.com/album/215513853EHOavh

Try having yours relined at a brake and clutch shop
Also post a wanted ad in the swap meet section, someone may have some new or NOS ones.
Give Jim Carters a call, he may have some or know where to look or who can have yours relined.

Nice looking truck, much much nicer than mine.

links/parts section... and what Grigg said.

I really like your truck, I like those 1 ton stepsides like yours for some reason.

p.s. some of the Canadian old truck parts vendors might be able to help you... I think I have 3 or 4 listed here:

Always thought my truck was a 3/4 ton 9' long bed, but like you my truck is badged as a 250? I plan on getting the pads resurfaced also, had once heard of ceramic brake pads???

From my truck ID does it match with yours to be sure?

A New Design GMC 250 is a one ton. Three quarter ton would be a 150.

I also have a '49 but a half ton longbed. I like the mirror stand holding the side vent door partly open or closed, whatever.

Well, finaly an update. I found re-lined shoes, got new front wheel cyl's from Jim Carters. installed all new steel lines, hoses too and a new master cyl. The rear shoes were good and I just put in Kits in the rear cylinders,, which may comeback to bite me as there was some pitting in the center where the cups come together. It was good for a few weeks then I noticed my fluid went down some and one rear wheel wanted to lock up first couple brake applications in the morning....
