i rebuilt the edelbrock #1405 carb to be more like the #1406 carb, as per their tech person over the phone. he had me change the .100 jets to .098 jets, and change the metering rods. i did that, installed a fuel pressure regulator and set it at 6 psi, set my timing, and didnt really put my foot in it the last 3 weeks of cruising. and i went for a little cruise on the turnpike to kind of claibrate my odometer. when traveling 1 mile between mile markers, the odometer read only .9 miles, so it was one tenth off. tonight my odometer read 129.5 miles, so i multiplied that by .1 tenth, which gave me 142.45 actual miles traveled, and i put in 10.404 gallons, for a grand total of 13.691 MPG. a lot better than the 6 MPG i was getting.
gonne leave it alone for now, and try to keep my foot out of it and hope the mileage stays in that range. leonard | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | Alright Leonard: That's much better!! | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 61 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 61 | Great going Leonard. just filed up my daily driver, 2003 s-10 with 4.3 v-6. i am only getting 13.5 MPG in it, around town. last time i checked, on the highway it was getting 19. so my v-8 57 chevy is now getting better gas mileage than my factory s-10. crazy. leonard | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 70 | Leonard, can you tell much difference in power with the new jetting? | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | shoe, i did the jet change and metering rod change, and retarded the timing and installed a fuel pressure regulator, all at once. and yes, i did notice a slight decrease in performance. but mine aint no race truck, and it will still burn the tires on a dead punch, so i am more than happy with the way it drives now. leonard | | |
