For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 199 | My new original style replacement oil pressure gauge sure looked nice but upon fastening the brass fitting and line, the slightest tightening of the 1/2 inch fitting snapped off the brass housing off the rear of the new gauge. Looks like the JB weld or whatever mickey mouse method of assembly did not hold up. Upon inspection, I would be afraid to use it. I am thinking I want to keep it for looks in the panel and mount a "real oil pressure gauge" that will use the same hard line and fitting. Something I can mostly keep low profile. Has anybody got successful recommendations. This $60 buck repop gauge was wasted money. looks like the fitting plate on the gauge literally was held on with a tiny spot weld. Did not take any tightening with a tiny wrench whatsoever..... They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. You find instruments clusters for the Task Force trucks all the time on ebay for a lot less than that that should have a usable unit in it. Keep in mind that the original capillary units did not have much that could mechanically malfunction.
There actually was an original oil gauge out there last week on ebay that did not sell, and although I cannot recall its starting price at the moment, it sure was a lot less than $60. Also check with one of our stovebolters, Steve "JIMBO59CHEVY" Giminiani. I have had very good luck with parts from him. Also consider the Parts forum on this site.
Good luck,

I will be sending the "new" one back. The oil pressure is one thing I like to stay aware of. Thanks Ralph | | |
