I purchased a 1939/40 1/2 ton on Ebay. The body is a 1940 and the chassis is a 1939. The title is clear through the state of Missouri with a issue date of 1951. The PO never titled it in his name but did a lot of modifications to the vehicle. I only have a title number not a VIN (no VIN plate). The title number is stamped on the chassis. Do you think the state of Missouri can trace back the title number to get the original VIN?

If you do a search on VIN you'll find hours of informative reading. The number on your title is most likely the engine number. Contact the Ohio DOT to find out what their process is for resolving your problem. Info from anyone but them is hearsay. Good luck.
