Hiya folks, so last summer I replaced my the u-joints in the drive shaft in my '65 c10:

so, today I was changing the oil, oil filter and doing the lube thing on all the grease fittings up front.

I thought I'd squirt some grease into the u-joints as well9since my new u-joints have grease fittings on them), but my grease guns won't fit into the space there, to properly seat on the zerk fitting.

I'm guessing maybe I could change out the zerk fitting and get one that extends out a little more?

Or is there a grease gun that might have a smaller extension or what?

I can always drop the shaft and squirt in the grease that way, but it seems a crazy way to have to do it.

I thought I'd ask for options.

Thanks folks,

-W

Usually a hand grease gun has a small coupler on it & will go into the space. Sometimes the u_joint is put together with the fitting faceing the wrong direction. You can take the drive shaft loose at the rear end & bend it to get the center & rear ones. You can buy a needle adapter that goes into the hole in the fitting.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

A needle adapter that goes in the hole as Wrenchbender says or the adapter with a nylon cup on the end that will work at different angles. In a pinch, I have taken the coupler end off the grease gun and used the hose to zerk method. Sloppy, but it works.

Don't go with a longer zerk as it'll break off...the needle adapter works quite well and any parts house should have them...

A needle adapter, I'm guessing this thing fits on the end of the grease gun and then slides into that space to go onto the grease fitting?

Thanks a bunch folks.

O.K., I bought one of those needle adapters. I see how it fits into the grease gun, but what is the correct way to use it on the u-joint?

It was also suggested to me, that if I could find a longer grease fitting that would work, to stick it in there, shoot in the grease, then put the original one back in.

Maybe this weekend I can get under there to mess with it.

Thanks for the tips folks,
