| | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 16 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 16 | hey guys i am putting my 53 1/2 ton truck back together and i have run into a snag. will a dual offenhauser intake with column shift work. i have cut my steering column to use with a power steering setup so im not sure where the column is supposed to sit. It looks like the shifter arms are going to hit the intake. anyone have this setup with some pictures i could go on?

Does your set up have the original steering column?
If yes, did you lengthen the "arms" in order to clear the Fenton intake?
Are the Fenton and Offenhauser intakes the same in terms of shifter-clearance?
I am asking these questions because I will have the choice of a Fenton or an Offenhauser intake for use in an otherwise stock 1/2 ton 1954 truck.

The answers to your first 2 questions are yes and yes. I have heard some have shortened the arms to clear but the throw would become short as well so I don't know how well that works. I would guess the interference would be about the same. As for intake choice the carbs are 9" apart on the Offy and 11" on the Fenton so your choice of air cleaners may be a consideration. I experimented with a few different arm lengths and geometries until I was happy with the throw.

thanks for the picture. i got another look at it today and it will definatly not work stock soooo i figured would have to do some modifications. what you did looks great.

However, the only exhaust that has been on the truck was a Corvette split manifold and later, a set of Clifford long tube headers.
