I bought a Lokar billet dipstick for my crate engine to replace the stock dipstick. Try as I might, I could not get the tube to insert into the block. I measured each and the lokar is .0010 larger in diameter than the stock. It is the correct product for a 350 passenger side. Is there a trick short of boring to get the thing in there? headscratch

BIG,

Did you mean to write .010. The figure you posted, .001 is only a hair oversize and would, or should easily tap in...you must have meant .010, which is ten thousandths and could make it a no-go.

A little file work and some frequent measuring should make things fit. One or two thousandths over the size of the hole in the block should be just about right for a tight tap-in fit. If you taper the dipstick tube so the first 2/3 of the block contact area drops in, the last 1/2" or so is all that really needs to fit tight. A snug slip fit and a drop of red LocTite works, too.

The original is .368 and the Lokar is .369. Are you saying that is just only one thousandths difference?
I am just afraid if I try to force it into the block it will go a few inches and get stuck. I have tried tapping it with medium strength taps but it won't go more than half an inch. I tappered the end somewhat but that didn't seem to help any.

Emory cloth will do the trick if it is that little difference.

BIG,

As they used to say on Laugh-In...you bet your bippy! Three hundred and sixty eight thousandths PLUS one thousandth is...three hundred and sixty nine thousandths. wave

I guess I'll try the Emory cloth approach and see if that will work.

Well the problem I have discovered, after reducing the dia. 1.5 thousandths, was the header was in the way and after unscrewing the bottom half of the dipstick she slid right in.
