You should be able to bolt up to a bellhousing that had a SM420 behind it which was common in 1956. You will need to get the bellhousing that is correct for your motor (six or eight cylinder). Clarks usually were put behind chevy motors in the bigger trucks, and since GM standardized everything possible, yours should bolt right up. | | |
#40281 03/28/2002 2:26 AM | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 197 Member | | Member Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 197 | I don't know for sure about 1956, but the early clarks (pre 1953) had a different bolt pattern compared to the sm420 and the bellhousing was more bulbous to accomadate a larger clutch. What size flywheel do you have? Try Boyce Equipment (you'll have to do a search for the phone number or website)who has rebuilt clarks and may have a bellhousing for you.

It is on a 302 and it had a clark behind it It has ears bolted on the side of bell housing for rear mount I will look for the casting # on the housing do you need the clark transmission also ?? flywheel ?? clutch ??? has a 11 and 1/2 clutch
maybe 11 3/4 measures in between

I have 2 engines with bell housings in storage
in Nebraska on 302's
I will check them Wednesday
The one in my garage on a 302 is not like yours.
