I just picked up a 58 GMC that is partially restored and I have some questions

Does anybody make patch panel for 58 from fenders around the headlights?

I have a 60-66 step side short box with the truck
I need to replace the wood and metal strips. I noticed that the mounting will not line up.Later frames must be wider. Do I need to rebuild it as a 60+ or as a 58 box. Can I use the original braces from the 60 box to build a 58 box? or do I need to order everything new?

I believe the ft fender patches are availible now, try Scotts Super Trucks out of Penhold Alta 1-800 GMC Chev he is Canadian and has access to most
parts availible....

just curious, is your sun visor original, and if not, where did you get yours from ?
i am thinking about putting one on my 57 chevy 3100.
are the aftermartket ones fiberglass or steel, and how do they mount ?

New reproduction out of Scotts super trucks, most vendors have them, Its steel, mounts with 7-8 screws to the underside of the windshield lip( slight rejigging to fit) I painted the underside
satin black for antiglare, cost was around $130.00 I believe...
You might want to invest in a traffic light viewer as sometimes you have to crane your neck to see the light...Don't ask what I have into the truck as I gave up when the total passed $18k and I think I put another 10K into it, total frame off, redistriped body, lots of old school hammer and pick bodywork. You cauld see what I started with (Young and foolish-"FREE Truck")

I just flipped through Scotts catalogue and they don't list any patch panels just the whole fender-$595!!! Ya never know though they sell used parts and might have something around.

I could only see one picture of your truck, do ya have more?? The cab looked great in that one.

patches for the 58 fenders aren't made, except the lower rear section, which is available from Cross Canada Parts [via your local body supply store, like NAPA] and the OldCar Centre in Langley

the 60's bed may need mount holes moved, but will work fine as is, don't need to buy anything, the stepbox is the same 55-66 [I put a 65 bed on a 57, no changes]

I couldn't find any when I was fixing my fenders, but I did find a much better set of fenders here on the SBP and had them shipped up out of California.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I was away from home for a few days.

I stopped in and talked to Scott on Tuesday and asked about the patch panels. As far as he is aware, no-one manufactures just the top 'eyebrows' for the '58 or '59 truck.

Keep your eyes open for fenders on the parts pages, that's where I found mine.
