It's a 95 camaro,3.4 v6, the check engine light keeps coming on, the so called mechanic that worked on it changed the EGR valve, it is electric and expensive $379.00 from GM. It still comes on and sets the same code, If I remember what he said it was a code #40, however I looked that up in a book and it says power steering pressure switch cicuit fault. Any Ideas?He has had three opportunities to fix it and I'm getting tired of the WARDEN giving me h-ll about it. Today is my birthday and I was promised a nice dinner at place of my choosing,(lot of good food down here in New Orleans) but was told if I don't get the car fixed I will be taken to B&K Steak house( burger king). HELP I want some good food.   :confused:

Just because a code sets does not mean a part is defective, it simply means the computer has seen a problem on that particular circuit. More testing is needed.
Cant help you with the diagnostics (at home, info at work) but if it is a egr code (and gm has trouble with them) go ahead and drive it until you can get it fixed. | | |

I was just wondering, the battery died friday and had to be replaced, only 2 1/2 yrs old, could that have anything to do with it? Or maybe a sensor on the engine, there are so many you don't know where to start looking.

Sometimes false codes are set by loose or corroded engine grounds.Some models have several small computer grounds on the thermostat housing bolt, usually a bad connection there. A bad battery, internally shorted may start the engine but not allow the proper charging system voltage ,setting off codes.The computer recieves a signal from the egr valve on a timed basis, if the computer thinks the egr is malfunctioning, it sets a code.If the egr exhaust passages are plugged with carbon(common)the code will set even if the valve is ok.If all else fails, a piece of tape over the check engine light can bring peace of mind. | | |
