Just bought a 1954 6100 2 ton, w/tandem axles and I need either to transport it or go get it and drive home the 600 miles. Nothing like jumpin into the fire. Been trying to get transport quotes but it seems that 2 pieces of additional information are needed; wheel base and empty weight. Could not find it in my truck shop manual. Need help. HELP!

The 1954 6100s have a 137" wheel base. If no one posts the empty weight by this evening, I'll post it when I get home.

I've got a '49 Restoration Pack from Chevrolet. The weight listed for a 6103 is 4680. This is curb weight. They say this is the weight of an empty vehicle ready to drive. I think that the 49 wheel base is a little shorter than your but weight should be close. What kind of bed do you have? Also the info I have doesn't mention any weight for the tandem set up.

It was used as a grain truck. So the bed sides are solid wood. A 3 piece gate on the back.

These are weights from Chevrolet.

They don't mention anything about the tandem set up, I'm sure because it was done someplace other than the factory.

I'd maybe add some weight to the racks if yours are solid, the picture that Chevrolet has shows spaces between the slats of the sides.

By tandem axles, do you mean 4 rear wheels?

The heaviest 6100 would be the stake bed with 8.25-20 tires on 4 x 6.5 rear wheels and 2-speed rear axle would be a little under 6,000 lbs (no fuel in tanks).

The truck has 8 rear wheels. dual hoist cylinders. 2-speed rear axle, and I am not sure the size of the rear tires but the Steer tires are 9:00 20, as I am told.

Hey fredico, If that's the '54 Tandem, I saw on ebay, Chances are it's a Tandem Conversion, by either, Trucktor, Truckstell, Fabco, or Grico. And if this is inded the case, you can throw all the standard Factory specifications, out the window.These Tandem conversions were done for Chevrolet by outside jobbers, until 1956, when the first Factory Assembly Line Chevrolet Tandems were produced. If it's like the '54 Chevrolet 5400 COE Trucktor Tandem, I had. It will actually consist of a separate set of frame rails, with the tag axle attached, that will slide over the factory frame rails, all the way under the cab. If this is the case you can figure in an extra 1500-2000lbs., of weight to the factory 6100 spec.'s. Hope this hasn't confused you. Good morning. We live in western Loudoun county on the Clarke county line. So close that the first 1500 feet of our driveway is in Clarke county. One half mile north is West Virginia. Looking at a map of northern Virginia bordering West Virginia at the bottom point of the V is where we live. Looks like on a map maybe 4-5 hours from Burlington.

Been look'n through a 1954 "Chevrolet Truck Data Book, Specifications Catalog for Chevrolet salesmen" and the type truck example pages for vocational use show a 6403, 6103 and even a 5403 all with tandem rear axles. I wrote Chevrolet to find out ifin a vehicle archival information base is available to the general public. No reply just yet. If there is such a site, I will gladly w/great haste share w/all. Also shown was a "dually" 4 door "Crew cab" C.O.E. It is what dreams are made of.

did you call for a gm restoration pack. got one in a few days and it's free. you provide your vehicle serial/chaissis/vin number as applicable. the pack i received had build specs part numbers etc. plus a list of speciality clubs and gm licensed restoration parts suppliers.
