For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 199 | The holes in the front fenders on my 59 are a bit larger than the bosses on the back of the trim spears so I assume some sort of special fastener is used to thread onto the 3/16 inch mounting studs? Is that correct? Is a larger fender type washer used and then a nut of some sort? The mounting studs protrude from the raised bosses which would fit through the fender holes so it has to be some type of speed nut or larger? These were off the truck so I have no reference. Appreciate any info. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | it's the cup shape type of stamped metal nut with a washer-like flange that's a touch larger than the hole, not really a speed nut ... haven't seen them in any catalog, but a standard nut with washer would do

The capture nut must be some sort of flanged deal but allow for the boss extension. I am going to get another bolter to send me a couple of the factory ones so I can figure it out. Would also recommend using a self locking nut or Loctite.

This store has an extensive hardware/fastener section. What I found was what I call a clip nut but some call a spring nut. It is rectangular black oxide spring metal with a hole that has two sprags punched on opposite sides of the hole. This fits over the emblem mounting shaft (which does not have any threads) and is pressed against the inside surface of the fender/hood/whatever so the spring forces hold the part in place and the sprags cut into the mounting shaft. If you cannot source it locally I may be able to find what you need at my store. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 86 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 86 | Try McMaster-Carr They're called flange speed nuts and are under the "speed nut" choice of the "Nuts" section. Look under "Fastening". McMaster-carr is a great resource for all kinds of things, clutch head bits, SS screws and bolts, etc. Fast shipping. I've been using them for years. McMaster-Carr
