For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 | When the '58 Impala became available, they offered the "W" 348 engine which was considered a "truck" engine. I don't remember ever seeing the 348 engine in any '58 Apache pickups  . So what year trucks has them? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 141 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 141 | In the early 70's I owned a '59 PU with the 348. I can't recall anything good about it. After 3 years or so I replaced it with a 327. Now that was a super engine! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 | Seon, The 348 engines came standard in the '58 - '63 Chevrolet Heavy Duty 70 & 80 Series "Big Trucks". Were not available in pickups. I had a 1960 L80 Road tractor 348ci, & a '65 L80 Wrecker 409ci. Good running engines. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 | Spanky, thanks for your reply. I guess that's why I don't remember seeing those engines in pickups  . I have a '58 Impala and was thinking of putting a 348 or 409 in it. But finding one of these engines is like pulling hens teeth . | | |
