I have the full pressure 235 sitting around doing nothing. I drive the truck about twice a month. I would be putting it in the 53 3100. I have more questions, but I won't muddy up the thread. I've been reading and watching this site for a year or so but this is my first post. Please be easy on me.

And then there's people who drive their truck all the time with a 216 in it. I guess it really depends on what you're doing with the truck. | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Nothing wron with the 216. Properly maintained, they'll last just fine. For what you're doing, I wouldn't worry about it. Now if you were going to use it as a daily driver, perhaps seeing some highway use and/or performance mod (dual carbs/ split exhaust/ etc), then swapping to the full pressure 235 would be better.

Sounds like the 216 meets your needs. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | If it ain't broke don't fix it. My buddy has an original 216 in his 51 and I have a rebuilt 235 in my 49. I have trouble keeping up with him. Don't worry about changing it. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 32 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 32 | It a matter of choice. My 49 3/4 ton had a 216 which did it fine for years pulling loads on the farm and running back and forth to town. Now that it is purely used for in town trave the 216 still works great unless I'm trying to push it. I also have a 235 ready to go when the 216 gets tired but till then I agree - Don't fix it if it isn't broke.

But, you also have a good 235 with nothing to do - find another project with a blown engine and use it there. I like the 235, but I have a friend who swears by his 216 while I swear at it... keeps life fun.
In 1953 in Canada, all half to one-and-half ton Chev and GMC trucks arrived with a 235.5cid fully-pressurized inline six engine. | | |
