Yet questions about replacements keep popping up every couple of weeks. If you’re a purist and your electrical system is operating as it was meant to then there is absolutely no need for anything other than the 6v battery that it was designed to use. That’s my opinion now that everything has been replaced/rebuilt on my ‘50, 3604. Pryor to restoring my electrical system the start was a little sluggish and I had thought about the 12v thing for starting and Optima batteries and all of that. So I was kind of interested in the discussion going on over at the VCCA chat directed toward this battery site and their products. For those that are still contemplating the 6/12v option, they seem to have a clean answer for that. For those that want to stay period correct they offer some pretty good-looking batteries. Even though GM equipped their vehicles with battery models over the years that ranged into the dozens, some of the batteries from Restoration Battery would probably look pretty accurate in our trucks. http://www.restorationbattery.com/ I was not aware that the prewar Chevy’s were equipped with batteries that had the CHEVROLET logo cast into the side of the case and I believe that the DELCO was also cast into the case. From what I can find on the AC Delco sites in a search, all of the Delco batteries produced today simply have an AC Delco vinyl sticker on the side and I don’t find any listing for a 1950, 3600 in their catalog. When did GM begin using parts from them?

This is the battery that is shown in the service manual. battery photos on bottom of page. I got my battery from http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/ The prices are comparable. i wish I would have known that I could have had the production numbers burned into it as well. Kind of a bit crazy for the price of these batteries, but I figured what the heck. I don't imagine that a few years from now I will do it again but for the "first" restoration battery I figured why not.
