Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 374 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 374 | I have a 1946 1/2 ton with a 216. Original engine, carb, intake setup as far as I know. My question is this. Where does the throttle cable attach to the carb linkage. I am referring to the throttle knob for increasing idle inside the cab. It appears it might go to the linkage underneath the carb located between the carb and firewall side. However, if I 'hook' the cable up here, won't it push the knob out when I accelerate? Did it originally have some sort of 'slip mechanism' that would allow you to pull the knob to increase idle, but not affect the knob when the gas pedal was pushed? Any help is appreciated. Pictures would even be better. Thanks!

It won't push the knob out as you accelerate and there is a way of putting it in place so it slides on the throttle arm. I can send you photos of mine if you don't get any better help. Let me know. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 374 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 374 | That would be great if you can send pics. At the bottom of the cable there should be a small brass piece which the cable goes through. There is a screw in the brass piece at a right angle to the cable. This screw holds the brass piece onto the cable, and provides a "bottom" to the cable. As you pull the throttle button out - the linkage will lift up, increasing your RPM's. When using the pedal, the linkage will "slide" up the cable through the cotter pin hole. I hope that I have explained it clearly. I'm sure you will get what I mean once you see a picture. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | If yours is like my 38 216 the cable housing clamps just below the air filter housing. The wire continues down & through a hole in the linkage arm. Below this hole you put a wire stop that clamps to the wire. When you pull the knob, the wire pulls up on the linkage, accelerating the engine. During normal operation the hole in the linkage slides up & down around the wire with no interferance. I'd send you a pic but I don't have any of that particular spot. If you don't get what you need let me know & I'll snap a couple & send them to you.

Just bent the wire up and put a tight curl in the end. It stops the throttle rod on the arm from sliding off as well. Very simple arrangement. I have photos if anyone wants them. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | You can also use the brass connector with screw from an pigtail connector that you would use on house wiring. They are the black ones with the fitting inside. The correct part is called a cable stop. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | I believe this is shown in the Factory Assembly Manual. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | You can also buy a wire stop anyplace that sells lawnmower parts.
