I scored a 2004 6.6l Duramax Diesel engine for my truck today. I got it for $ 3000.00. It is supposed to have only 20,000 miles on it. It looks pretty clean, so I may believe that number.

Duramax powered. Sounds cool. I hope those springs you have on your ride hold up. Dmax is heavy and lots 'o' torque. I toyed with the idea of a 6.2 or 6.5 due to the fact they use big block motor mounts and virtually any chevy trans will bolt to them. I hanged my mind though, I figured if I was going to drive an oil leaker, I'd stick with what I got.

I understand you have to have the complete computer system to make it work.

Well, the original truck was a one-ton, so I'm hoping it'll carry the weight. I've already reinforced the frame just for good measure.

As far as computer system, I've been talking to a company that converts the duramax for marine use. They tell me they will be marketing a plug-in system for the duramax that will only require a constant 12v source, a switched 12v source and a ground wire. Their system will be available in either 650 or 850 HP versions (I think I'll get the 850 HP version!). This package was unveiled at SEMA last year and should be available fairly soon (I was told 1st quarter of '08).

I'm hoping to be able to surprise a lot of people once I get this thing on the road.

I picked up a Saginaw power steering box off of a '82 Chev 1/2 ton and mounted it according to the directions at http://www.classicperform.com/power2.htm

It wasn't too bad, only took me a couple of hours. I had to fab up some spacers and the 'triangular bracket' that they supply in the kit.

It's really cool that you can use the Chevy steering box. I didn't know it could be done. I heard of folks using a Toyota box and that didn't sit well with me.

BTW, is that a hydraulic brake booster you've mocked up there?

Yep, I have to use the hydroboost as a diesel engine will not produce any vacumn to power anything unless you add a vacumn pump (I guess I'll also have to change to electric wipers!).

I got the booster and master cylinder mounted yesterday.

Invite is always open to any 'bolter that shows up!
