I will soon be selling front cross-members for the AD 1/2 ton trucks (and possibly the 3/4) for mounting GM Metric A-arms and components. (GM Metric include the '78-'88 El Camino, Malibu, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, S-10, Camaro etc. These chassis are also used as the basis for many racing applications, so tubular upper and lower A-arms large brakes, etc. are available) Background: I am building a Resto-Mod and seriously investigated the AD engineering kit for an S-10. Being an engineer, I really didn't like the wheel spacers needed in the front to get the track width correct for the AD. I also have considered the Mustang 2 IFS, however I believe keeping the make throughout the project. GM on GM, FoMoCo on FoMoCo, Mopar on Mopar, etc. Being an enterprising individual, I believe that there may be a market for such product. This leads me to offering my designed cross member to other 'bolters. This will be jig welded, machine cut pieces. These will first be available as weld-in, followed shortly (relative) by bolt-in. Estimated availability is early 2008 Price is estimated in the $400 range for an unpainted Weld-In cross member (I have to get final costing from the vendor). Stock components from a Donor will work, as well as many aftermarket components. (I can also look into sourcing whole kits) Once available, I will update pricing, shipping, etc. Please contact me with any interest Scott danforths@lsol.net scott.l.danforth@charter.net

I do have my truck stripped down to the frame and cab. The next thing to be done will be pulling the engine out. If you are coming this direction, we could try to work something out. Otherwise, I would like any information you can send me on this. Thanks.

If not, when I run to the Twin Cities, I could make a swing south. (Or just give you a sketch with the dimensions I need) BTW, welcome to the 'bolt.

I am working on the designs now and will have the first unit cut sometime early January.
Can someone provide the height of the frame to ground on both a stock 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton? I want to get the ride heights correct for those who want stock ride heights as well as a drop.

Let me know if you still need the front end ride height measurements, I have a stock front end 51 1/2 ton in the garage. Now that X-mas and new year is gone, business travel is letting up, I should be able to finish the design in the next few days and have the jig made and the prototype tack welded for test fit within a week or so.

Tim, will do, someone with more knowledge on the similarities and differences between the AD's and TF's will have to chime in on the frame. Otherwise after the first ones are built, I can create a version for the TF's

| | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 206 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 206 | It won't work on a TF truck. The frames are different in that the AD's taper in the front of the cab and the TF's are straight 34" front to back. The AD's are very close to the dimensions of a 73-87. If you want to see the problems in making an AD cross member fit a TF go here. http://www.thehollisterroadcompany.com/C10ifs.html Its the same issues as a 73-87 cross member in a TF. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 |

I've spent most of my time modding and racing imports so please excuse my ignorance. Is this a full kit or just the cross member assembly itself? Again excuse the stupid question but I just want to be sure I understand what your doing here. Thanks for your time. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 | I will be offering the cross-member only initially, followed by complete kits with new tubular A-Arms, Steering Rack, etc. Spindles can be found used, or I can supply new drop spindles as well. There may be better sources individually for components, if so, I will point that out to people.
Hope this helps.
