Hi All,
I want to install front disc brakes on my 1942 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. Does anyone know who make a kit that will work?
Also is the mounting and width on a 1941-46 front axle the same as a 1947-54 Chevy 1/2 ton?
Thanks
Brian

Is your 42 3/4 ton a 6 lug truck? If so, the CPP kit should work...assuming of course that the 1/2 ton and 3/4 tons with 6 lugs share front axles. They may not. The hard part about the conversion is that you will have to fabricate your own bracket for the master cylinder. The 47-54 axle is a direct replacement for the 41-46 axle. Funny enough it is also an upgrade to the 1940 and earlier front axles because it uses larger king pins.

I plan to put a 2 1/2 to 3 inch drop axle in my 1940 3/4 ton from a 41-54 1/2 ton so I can put the 6 lug disc brake kit on and run original 16 inch rims. The rims rub the calliper a bit, but I think a spacer will solve that.

I just looked at the pics of the 42... WOW!

I also noticed that you have the frame mounted MC. You should be able to get any frame mounted MC bracket, like the ones they use for the AD trucks, and turn it around, and flip the MC and?booster over.

I've been trying to find a disc kit for my 54 forever. The best I can come up with is a late model disc(99 and up) and some home fabrication on the caliper brackets. I did find a place that makes kits for the rear. It has some possibilities, I think I can modify it for the front.

whitedog, are you talking about a 54 3/4 ton with 8 lugs? There is no kit for that, but there have been a few threads about 3/4 ton disc brakes in the past.

Big Daddy> I know, us 8 bolters are the misfits when it comes to brakes. I am pretty sure the disc off a late model will slip over my hub, then it's a matter of a caliper and bracket.
