As I am starting to put my '49 back together I noticed that on the drivers side there is a brace that mounts to the cab and frame via nut and bolt. This brace has threaded inserts that helps retain the inner fender well. There is none for the passenger side though and when I got to thinking I remembered that the when taking the fenders off, the passenger side was shimmed up the ying yang. My question is whether or not the passenger inner fender well is supposed to be mounted by a similar brace to that of the drivers side. I have check out some cataloges I have but they do not seem to either side available for sale.

To the best of my knowledge there should be one on both inner fenders. Dimensions are in the Shop Manual.

The passenger side inner fender attaches in a different way than does the driver's side inner fender. Both bolt through the floor but on the passenger side there are captive nuts on the inner fender well. On the driver's side, there is a pedal-assembly bracket that has captive nuts in it.

Sorry, I thought he was referring to the threaded rods that go from the firewall to the inner fender. My bad.

i was wondering about the same thing a few months ago when i was bolting up the inner fender wells. I asked to see if anyone had one laying around in the parts wanted section, and i wasn't getting any replies and a few was confused on what i was looking for. I looked through catalogs and such and couldn't find anything, the driverside mount is avaliable in catalogs but not the passengerside. I then finally realized that there was no mount for the passenger side when i went to look at another truck and seen that it was just bolted to the cab.

Tclederman is right ,they are opposite, on the one side the inner fender bolts to the cab and on the other side the cab bolts to the inner fender. Then, only one side has that bracket.

My passenger side inner fender had no captive nuts. It just had square holes I assumed to be for carriage bolts. Between the cab and inner fender were about 4 thick shims for each bolt. Again with the assumptions, I thought that these shims were in lou of the proper bracket which I thought to resemble that of the drivers side. I knew something was up cause with no captive nuts assembly requires a helper monkey to hold a wrench outside while you turn a ratchet from the inside. A pic of just what is supposed to be going on would be great. I am going to have it on and off quite a lot as a reference for remaking the front lower cab sheet metals.

Left-hand driver-side bracket attached to the firewall/toeboard - captive nuts are in the bracket

Left-hand driver's side inner-fender - holes are in the inner-fender


Right-hand passenger's side firewall - holes are in the firewall/toeboard

Right-hand passenger-side inner-fender - captive nuts are in the inner-fender (mounting bolts are attached to the captive nuts)

Right-hand passenger-side inner-fender - captive nuts from the wheel-well side of the inner fender

This statement has me scratching my head!

can you say dementia?I meant the bolts on the passenger side go from the inside of the cab through the holes in the firewall and into the threaded inserted nuts in the inner fender. The inner fender has nuts inserted in the fender well.There is no bracket on the pass side of the vehicle like on the driver side.

KillerKnight is correct, except the holes are actually in the toe board not the firewall.
