I need the "bulb holders and attached wires" for a 12 volt conversion for the dash/gauge lights for a 47-53. Anyybody know where to get 'em new?

regmudd,

Is something missing? Aren't there existing bulb holders you can install 12 volt lamps into?

Your originals should work just fine. 12v bulbs will work just fine using 6v wire.

My wiring is about shot. I'd like to replace everything and avoid trouble for the a long time if I can find replacement stuff. I have the existing stuff but again it's pretty worn.

regmudd,

If you have the lampholders but want to replace the old wiring, it is possible to dink around with the pigtail and install a whole new wire clear up to the little crimped lampholder

I thought the lampbase consisted of a Micarta disc with the brass nubbin the wire was crimped into. This shouldn't be impossible to re-invent with a new wire and a little ball of solder.

I wouldn't be surprised if new pigtails, even in the smaller size, weren't available. They would have to be spliced, but they would be new...just some thoughts.

You can get them really cheap at Rhode Island Wiring supplies. Alot of different suppliers will have them. You can buy the complete sockets with new pins or just the wire pigtails with the phenolic washer and spring.
