I need some help with a rearend for my 54 chevy piciup, its a GM rearend . it measures about 541/4 from backing plate to backing plate There are no bolts to remove the rear cover and it is held in with 10 bolts . I cant find the codes on the axles but there are some markings on the carrier these are raised and were part of the casting . as follows H267 (Means it was made in 1957?) also Gm25 and 3725899. Stamped into the casting is AC101
I got this for free to use in my old 54 chevy pickup , its the right width and I am going to run a 6 cylinder so it wont be getting a beating but I need to redo the brakes, would help to know what it came from .

If it takes a five hole wheel sounds like it might be a 55 to 64 car rear end.

From the stamped numbers, it appears to be a 4.11 rear from a late '57 or early '58 passenger car. Waht kind of suspension mounts does it have? Leaf spring or 3 link coil spring?

It has cups for coil springs and yes it is a 5 lug

That pegs it as a '58, but with the gearing, there won't be much gain over the stock diff other than getting an open driveline, which will require a different trans, too.
