Hi gang!
Well, I have finally given up on ever finding a carb (other than Rochesters) for my 261 so am now at the point of thinking about picking up a complete engine (with carb) and dropping it in. Will a 292 or 283 match up to my bell housing and motor mounts? (It's a 1962 C-30) Or do I have to go with a 216 or 235?
Thanks,
David

If you haven't given up on your 261, have you looked at the manifolds and the carbs available at The Stovebolt Engine company?

Dual Holley-Weber & Carter-Weber carbs seem to work fine for many people. I'm putting up with dual Rochesters but may switch to Carter-Webers.

I agree with tclederman. I think a Holley-Weber or Carter-Weber will save you a lot of work money and trouble. I've looked at replacing my 235 with a 292, and the offset motor mount scares me a little. A V-8 is going to make things pretty tight under the hood, and the tweaks won't be free. Motor mounts for a V-8 are going to run at least $50 and I've heard that someone has a complete ??-Weber kit for less than $100, with linkage and manifold water heater.

was considering the same set up in my 46 1/2t. just saw on the stovebolt engine company site the bolt in engine mount kit for $120. that should make things a little easier.

however, there seems a need for quite a bit of consideration when going to the 292 for bellhousing, clutch, tranny and so on. see my thread in here 261 vs 292 lots of things to think about

I went with the Holley/Weber setup on my 56-235 engine....couldn't ask for a more trouble-free fantastic performing carb. Eliminated all the inherent issues commonly found in a Rochester. Have pictures of the install and linkage setup in my Webshots album.

After initially suffering from all the leaking, fumes, hard starts, poor idle, hesitation and rich conditions from a heavily worn Rochester, the Holley/Weber was the most logical fix. Ditto for the Carter/Webers that I'm running on my 60-235.

Stovebolt Engineering has put together a great combination that will appeal to any driver who wants the most bang for their buck.

Holley/Webber 2 bbl carbs from Langdon's Stovebolt are cheap and work very well. They even cell an adapter to bolt onto the original manifold.
