I purchased a new (to me) column to replace the column in the 52. The threads at the top of the column were qll goobered up. Any way I disassembled the replacement column to find that all looked very good. I plan to reassemble and fill with lube. The catch is that I need to relace the gaskets on the steering gear box. Do any of you know where I can buy the gaskets? or will I just have to make some? I see several venders sell rebuild kits, but 70 bucks for a couple of gaskets is a littl pricey. Constructing your own flat gasket using bulk gasket material from the hardware store and a ball pein hammer is a very easy task.
Have you done this before? It will make you feel like a pro when you produce a perfect gasket. I'll bet someone will show up with the step by step directions soon.

If thats the case you will need to find some. If it has an adjustment for the worm brgs. you can do like Stuart says or use RTV.

I appreciate the confidence Atomarc. No I have not made a gasket from "scratch" before. The gear box has both sector and tensioning adjustments. As with so many things with this truck it forces me to think, and improvise. I love that. Not to brag, but at work they call me Mcgyver. Because if I need some tool or device I try to make it first, rather than buying what I need.
