Have it stripped down to the frame and have ordered a Mustang II Front suspention as well as new rear mono leaf set up. Been really concidering shorting the frame to change her into a short box. Has anyone done this and any advice. I am thinking to cut the frame cut the front of the box remove 1 support per side and shorten the splash aprons and order new running boards for a short box. ?? Any advice would be great.. Or anything I have forgetten.

I really like the usefulness of the 9' bed on my 1 ton, even 8' would be too short after having 9' for so long (pun intended)  If you must shorten it, sounds like you have a plan. I am going to V-Cut the frame and I will post some picks of the whole procedure . Gona weld on some tabs on both sides of the cut so I can measure exactally the distance as well as I might even do a box section on the cut section or a fish plate for added strength.
Robin | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 | i just spliced the frame on my 53 chev 3100. i put a new front section on from about the front cab mount forward. do a angle cut about 33 degres so that you have more weld surface and a stronger joint. then at least do a fish plate with no square corners. boxing your splice would be good. i have pics on photobucket.com under justin53chev

Last sunday "TRUCKS" had a whole show dedicated to shortening a early 60's long box to a short , very informative & detailed they covered the frame & bed ,the way they did the frame looked pretty strong . maybe you could search that episode on the net ???
