I think the starter drive (bendix) is the inotial problem but when ignored long enough chews on the flywheel which will give the same symptoms even after the problem starter drive is replaced. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | Engines tend to stop at nearly the same place as far as starter drive to flywheel is concerned so try turning the engine about 90 degrees and then trying it. If it kicks in every time by doing this then it's the flywheel. If a standard trans you can put it in high gear and push it a little forward or back and if an auto you will have to turn the flywheel, after pulling dust cover, or if it has a bolt in the front of the crank you can turn with that. If it's an old 235 or even a 250 you can press the fan belt tight and turn them by pulling on a fan blade.
