I changed the oil but I know the mains have got to be dry. How do I get the mains lubed before I start it? Should I over fill it and hand turn the engine, then drain it down to the correct amount? If so how much oil should I put in it? Is there a better way?

#37882 09/05/2003 1:45 PM | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 | Don't overfill the crankcase. Easyiest way to pre-oil is to turn off the fuel, remove the spark plugs, disconnect the coil wire and spin it with the starter. About a minute should do it.

#37884 09/10/2003 4:09 PM | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 140 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 140 | I'd put a little light oil in each spark plug hole before I spun it, if it was me. A couple of teaspoons at most. The idea is to wet the rings and walls as you crank it.
You may foul the plugs a bit when you finally start it, but they're easy to clean. Why risk ring/cylinder damage for the price of a plug?
