i have a 63 gmc 1/2 ton i want to convert to disc brakes. i have a chance to get a 86 1/2 ton chevy pickup that i would like to get the parts off to do it. has anybody here done this swap? i've been told i have to use the 86 balljoints in the 63 control arms to use the newer spindles. i was thinking i could also get the power booster and master off the doner truck too. maybe even the steering column. any help would be greatly appreciated! I have a 65 that we put the 86 disk brakes on. We used the whole k member and every thing (a arms, spindles, ball joints) to get ride of the grease able bushings. The 86 k member for the most part bolts right up. We only had to elongate 4 holes to make it fit to the frame. We left ours manual brakes. Hope this helps

get your tape measure out, it's simpler than you think and a very nice upgrade. pull the newer k-member and you will see how close it comes. their is probably some info on 67-72 chevytrucks.com like pic's.good luck.
