Heres a direct link to a picture of the ignition switch harness I have on my 56 gmc. I am trying to put back together this truck, and the ignition i bought which was suposed to work, will never plug into this harness...does anybody know what my wiring harness may be out of based on the picture of it? Im afraid my truck may be wired with the wiring of another vehicle.. any help would be awesome!!!!

I might be wrong but it sure looks like a Mid 70's ...GM plug to me.
Im sure a wiring expert will chime in soon to let you know for sure .

sure looks like a 70's gm car to me also. hit the painless wiring site as they may have some good pic's to reference. check the local library also.

I think I may be in for a whole new wiring harness for my truck, any suggestions? Its got a 305 with electronic ignition, a 350 auto tranny, and i would like to add aftermarket guages, a dvd player in the dash, use stock ignition, and everything else can be stock too...i noticed harnesses cost around 4-500 ... any body know of a place to get a full harness for dummies like me for around 200? I assume that price range only gives you garbage harnesses...but maybe theres someone out there that can sell em cheaper than what ive seen....

the rubber meets the road here ,it is half dozen of one or 6 of the other ..a GOOD harness is not cheap bye any meanes , BUT & theres always a but ...YA GET WHAT YA PAYED FOR in this deal .
If ya go the cheap route you will later kick yourself in the
hiney , ya go the other more expensive route you will drivin not walkin ...so it comes down to a few choices .
YOU can do it yourself with a wring diagram.
YOU can get a cheap one ..an fight it for yrs .
YOU can cough up the $ ..get it right the first time an done .
It IS what it IS when it comes to wirin ..

Is the truck already wired with your harness? Is it in good shape? If its a decent harness already wired up I would either find an ignition to fit that plug or identify the wires from the plug, cut it off, and adapt it to the switch you want.

Its wired alright, but since im a complet novice when it comes to wiring, i think i may be in for a whole new complet truck harness, one with complete install instructions, you know the one for dummies?
