I'm looking at a 56 chevy truck in canada. What throws me off is the side marker, it says it's a 1420. Looks like the 3100. Is this number only for canadian truck?

Canadian model numbers were different from USA truck model numbers.

The oldgmctrucks.com link gives the Canadian series numbers for Chevrolet & GMC trucks but there does not seem to be a list of what each series numbers refers to.

1300 series Canadian Chevrolet trucks were 1/2 ton (3100 series in USA)
9300 series Canadian GMC trucks were 1/2 ton (100 series in USA)

1400 series Canadian Chevrolet trucks were presumably 3/4 ton trucks (3600 series in USA)
9400 series Canadian GMC trucks trucks were presumably 3/4 ton trucks (150 series in USA)

If no one posts information on the 1420 by this evening (or no one corrects mis-information that I have posted above), I'll look in a Canadian Shop/Maintenance Manual and post correct information.

Hy Guys, Canadian 1420 is equal to American 3600, or what we both commonly call a 3/4 ton. to break down the Canadian serial or V.I.N. number
The first digit indicates the year
The second and third digit indicate the series
The forth and fifth digit indicate the model
The sixth digit indicates whether it had a 6 or 8 cylinder engine
The balance of the number is the vehicle number
This information holds true for most Canadian trucks, trucks before the 55B or second series of course were only powered by 6 cylinder engines so the sixth digit may not be a six and the whole serial number may be shorter by one digit, hope that helps.

This is the Canadian Chevy that I would die for. I've never seen one in person, I'd love to drive one.

CAN$400 is kinda steep for a truck that:
- has been laid on its side
- has no drivetrain
- has a longbox stepside

Besides, the picture on their website is 120x100 pixels. I think they could do better than that.

I would suggest that you keep looking for a better project truck.

I just looked up where Duluth, Mn is located. That's a long ways to go for a ho-hum truck.

Have you tried looking in Manitoba instead?

I know a super nice guy named Bill Ewing who is an integral part of the Manitoba Tailgate Club. I wished that I lived closer to him because he and his crew are a bunch of fantastic guys and I wished that I could be a part of his club.

Anyhow, he has a resourceful friend named Rance who could probably fix you up with a nicer truck besides they're closer to you

I saw one of those here in New Mexico. Canadian model number? That thing's a long way from home!

There are auctions here in the summer nearly every week with something at them... Put it this way, I have bought 4 trucks in the last 4 years and they 3/4 of them run, and I have paid less then $1200.00 for all combined..
