Working on my 51 and just finished removing all the body panels. Here my question I have 2 companies in my area both offering stripping. One does it by dipping into a chemical bath and the other uses blast media. Wonder what is the prefered way and advantages or disadvantages and pass experences

My two cents = Dip if you can.
It gets into places the media blast cannot.
Is easier on the meatal.
Removes everything that is not metal, So there will be abit more work replacing seem sealers and such.

I agree with underdog. I was told by someone I consider to be an expert that, "some types of blast media can distort the metal." Having said that, I did blast the dump body on my truck and was satisfied. Good luck with your project.

Good points! but don't forget the worst part about media will be comming out of everywhere for a long time afterwords!!

Heres my 2 pennies,
If you search around a bit there is a lot more problems afterwards ...after dipping as the liquid can hide in all the nooks an crannys ..and eventually come back to haunt you in finished paint .
Media blasting done right can come out perfect , now that said ...it requires an expeirienced blaster to do this .
I had ALL my sheetmetal blasted by a gent that knows his work , and i was super pleased ,actually he left some bondo on my hood that he was in his words NOT GOIN AFTER ..(my center strip was bondoed shut)..for the fact of overheating the hood , he told me i would have to get that at home with my orbital sander ,wich i did in like 10 minutes.
look around a bit before deciding .
and search reports on blasting vrs. dipping results here on the forum.

Either process depends greatly on the skill of the stripper. The best way to choose is to talk to a couple of customers from each place and go with your gut feel after that. If you can get a guarantee that is even better. Some places will even prime it for you.
