I just found out that my pinion lost part of a tooth and it was catching in the gears in the differential. Needless to say it would make quite a bang when this happened. I have removed the debris, and it seems quiet now, but I will need to replace the ring and pinion soon.

My question is this: Does anyone know if the ring and pinion are the same in a standard differential and the posi-traction?

The truck is a 1961 1/2 ton SWB stepside 2wd 235 4-spd posi-trac.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, the ring and pinion will swap on that one.
