Does anybody have any suggestions for seating the crank out windshield with a new seal into the opening with a fresh paint job?

Are you replacing the glass within the frame? If so.....I just finished this exercise. I used the customary welting just to center the glass in the frame. I used 2" strips and mounted them perpendicular to the windshield edge. I spaced them about 6"-8" inches apart. Then I used a permatex windshield FLOWABLE sealer to fill the channel about half way. I finished with a black permatex windshield sealer. Gotta mask the frame and the window glass to reduce the mess. Worked just fine and I didn't have to worry about cracking the glass.

Actually, I'm trying to get the completed assembly to close in the opening. The new weatherstrip is pretty stiff and we haven't been able to fully close the windshield yet. Have tried keeping pressure on it with the crank and using silicone on the rubber but, so far, no luck.

Which brand of seal did you use? I bought three different ones till I went to Steele Rubber. It was the only one that would let the glass close all the way. There seal is made from softer rubber and has a relief cast into it. It looks just fine and worked better then expected. Don't try to force yours or else a new glass will be needed! I tried the setting in the hot sun, heat guns, lube, and what ever else I could think of, they were just to hard of rubber. Joe

Not sure who made it. Purchased it from Carters'. Sounds like you might be right though. Is the one from Steele that much softer?

First of all, welcome to this site.

Second, steele rubber products are of excelent quality.

soft seal is another quality product I've used for door seals. They are very soft and offer superior products. Don't know if they have the windshield frame for the 36 though. You'll have to check em out on the web.

Third, lets get some pix posted...you know by now we all love em.

I had the same thing with my 40. The first seal wouldn't fit in thewindshield opening. Ordered a new one from Steele, not only softer, but slightly different in size and shape. Fit like it should...lesson learned!

Ok, Ok, a new seal is on the way. Hope to have it assembled and completed within the next month. I'll post some pics when it's done. It's looking pretty sharp so far. It belongs to my father, he's owned it for more than 50 years. Been in storage since '65, nice and solid.

I am sure I am talking for the entire gang here...you gotta post some pix, hearing about that truck having one owner for 50 years and being in storage for such a long time has peaked my interest.
