I want to drop my 53 truck and have access to a free 57 axle that I could drop in a friends jig. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | I'm running a 57 half ton axle under my 46 pickup so i'm sure you won't have a problem.

The AD trucks are narrower and are angled in at the front, the TF's are more parallel. I'd check this before going to all the trouble of dropping that '57 axle. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | Waldos got it... 41-54 axle should all be the same. 55 2nd and later may work, but spring spacing and angles are likely to be different. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 30 | Senor Drapal, thanks for the link to your place. Exactly what I was looking for. I think it would be perfect to use this 57 axle as I can move in the spring pad to the 53 location gaining a little over 2 1/2 inches of usable stretch area. With the added 3/4 inch longer the axle is on each side already that gives me a hair over 3 1/4 inches more axle to stretch which gives me much more meat in the bend area. A little more work with having to machine off part of the existing pad and weld on a new section, but well worth it I think. I'm sure you've already done or thought of this, any negatives I'm not thinking of here? Hans
