this seems like a silly question but...

how is the air filter housing secured to the air horn on the top of a mono rochester b? there are no threads for the rod in the cross piece on top of the carb. is the rod supposed to be a press fit?

Some air cleaners use a clamp around the horn instead of the post..
You could cut threads in the bar for a post...

The crosspiece hooks under notches in the neck & small split pins go down & lock it in. Often the neck is wallerd out & won,t hold the bracket.

the cross piece is there and secure. the oil bath was sitting on the passenger floor and no threaded rod was to be seen. the oil bath looks to be original and it has a hole in the top, no clamp at the bottom.

i may just jb a threaded rod into the notch on the cross piece.

There is a Clamp on pipe with a cross bar and centre rod with wing nut which holds and supports the oil bath air cleaner....

The oil bath air cleaner does not fit that carb. It is a latter model & uses a dry cartridge type filter.

huh?? this is the original carb (at least a correct carb) for a 1960 261. my shop manual indicates the oil bath is the only option.
