My truck is starving for gas. It is a '52 GMC with a '77 nova 250 6 cylinder turbohydramatic. It had sat in a garage for about 9 years but I got it running pretty quick. Now here's the rub. Gas gauge sending unit needed replaced and I took the tank out to have it checked. Put it back together and sometimes I get fuel to the carb but it's not constant. I have replaced: fuel pump, filter, and a new rebuilt carb. The only thing I can figure the gas is fed from the bottom of the tank where there is a valve (shutoff I assume) Has anyone encountered these valves ? Are they open wound in or out? Right now I have it halfway. Any help??

It's fully open in the out position.

Did you get the tank cleaned out good? After 9 years, I'm sure there's a lot of crud in it. You could even have some in that valve or in the line.
Been there, done that!!

I am having a similar problem with my 235 in my 61, but I think my problem is gunk in the tank. I keep sucking big hunks of crap into my pre-pump filter. I am gonna hve to take th tank out and clean it and then flush the fuel lines good. It might be something similar in your truck.

I would BET that the above posters are correct: you have junk in the tank that needs to be cleaned out.
