1. It seems that there's a lot of 'extra' work that needs to be done to make the Rochester 'B' carb work with this intake. What's a better 'bolt on' solution? Is there one with an electronic choke?
2. I'm using the Rochester 1bbls that I bought from Langdon's with the intake. The truck will not start unless I shoot starting fluid in them. With the starting fluid, the truck will start. She's a little cold blooded but she'll keep going if you play with the choke. Unless the engine is up to operating temperature, she won't start after I shutdown unless I use starting fluid again. After she's up to temperature, she acts normally except the hesitation on acceleration.
3. If the hot water to the intake is supposed to help atomize the fuel; what does this until the water starts to heat? It seems that when I need the heat the most, the water is cold. Is it better to run exhaust from the headers up to the intake? Someone sent me a document about using copper tube for this. Will it survive that header heat?
4. Can someone post a picture that shows the water setup that looks neat?
5. What are you using to seal the plate added to the bottom of the intake for water? for exhaust?
6. I added a double pumper fuel pump with this modification. Did I need to do something else? Do I need more pressure? What pressure should I have to each carb?
Don: You offered to help if I called. I'll try to give you a call next week. I overlooked your number and location on your website. I just re-checked and found the info. I appreciate your offer. Jerry | | |

#1. Choke only 1 carb. Usualy the rear as the cable reaches it best. No electric conversion I know of for the Rodchester although one can be adapted. H/W's with electric choke works.
#2. You describe a lean condition. Check for vacumn leak. Get 2 jets of the same size to balance the fuel delivery. Minimum size 47, Max at 58's. Measure both accelerator pump rods first and note just in case. Lengthen accelerator pump links by straightning out in 1/16" increments. Hesitation should start to diminish.
#3. Prefer exhaust heat. 3/8" steel tube does work. Inverted flair fittings don't leak.
#4. I would post photos but I don't know how!
#5. Use 1/4" if room. I use 3/16". Cut plate using gasket as pattern. Tap both sides to heat both chambers of the intake. Seal with red rtv.
#6. Pressure is fine from stock pump and 5/16 fuel line. 4 to 6 lbs works.

They did a nice job of running the dual exhaust and saving the under-bed spare tire. It's 2" aluminized with glasspacks. I love that sound.
Same symptoms on start-up and warm up. I had to feather the gas to get her going at a stop light. Stalled once and had to use starting fluid to get her going. I drove about 5 miles. By the time I got home, I could turn her off and re-start without starting fluid.
I'm probably going to put her in storage tomorrow and worry about this mess in the spring. I'll probably pull the intake and carbs and check the specs over the winter.
I still welcome ideas on what's wrong.

It seems that the floats are ok. I'm using a stock gasket on intake and headers. I'm also using the ring on the intake ports. I had to cut some material off the clear the header tabs. Should I switch to a PermaGasket solution instead?
Thanks. | | |

Today I removed one of the new carbs and put on the old Rochester (C in the top left corner of the logo). I removed the other carb and made a gasket to close off the that part of the intake and put the carb back on. I hooked up the linkage and choke. I pulled the choke, pumped the gas, and voila! She started and ran. She idles fine and will re-start when I want her to. I never used starting fluid today.
I didn't have much time to tinker. She pops a little on accel but I think I've got her out of time now.
I think I'm back to accelerator pump. I'll get a couple and see how that works in the spring. For now, I'm going to put her in storage and worry about it in March.
Thanks everyone.

Maybe that was contributing to the rough idle with that one carb you were experiencing?
