Today I removed one of the new carbs and put on the old Rochester (C in the top left corner of the logo). I removed the other carb and made a gasket to close off the that part of the intake and put the carb back on. I hooked up the linkage and choke. I pulled the choke, pumped the gas, and voila! She started and ran. She idles fine and will re-start when I want her to. I never used starting fluid today.
I didn't have much time to tinker. She pops a little on accel but I think I've got her out of time now.
I think I'm back to accelerator pump. I'll get a couple and see how that works in the spring. For now, I'm going to put her in storage and worry about it in March.
