I am putting a newly rebuilt 250 in my '65 Chevy truck. I have seen some posts on this website and I would like to know what parts do I need to make this project work? Re: What type of vehicle does the clutch pressure plate and T/O bearing come from?I have the original 3 speed bellhousing from the truck. Also, do I have to shorten the input shaft? I am running a high tourque cam and 373 gears with 281/2 inch tires. Has anybody out there done this setup and how does it perform on the highway?

I would really appreciate some information on this.

Thank you,
New Guy Mike

I have a 250 in my 65. it was in there when I got it. Looks like someone cut the original tranny crossmember out and made one further back, but I have a th350 tranny. Don't know about a T-5. Good luck with the swap.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, unless you're me!

Mike, for what its worth, I would grab something like this which includes all you need. If you are doing a T5, grab the parts from an Astro with a T5 ('87 or 88). Beyond that you will have to search the forums here and on inliners.org for a specific list of parts to keep your stock bellhousing, etc.

I just put a T-5 in my 37 and you have it a little easier then I did,the T-5 will bolt to your original bellhousing. Use the original pressure plate and use a 4201 disc and you will need to cut off about 3/8 off the end of the collar on the front of the trans, you might be able to use your original yoke on the driveshaft but will need the driveshaft shortened. If your truck came with a 230-250 6 cyl. it should be no problem. Use the info above & do a search for some more info. & tech tips.
